Living with Black
Black is not an empty darkness, but a peaceful state of mind when daily noise fades away. Shang Siqi takes black as a starting point, exploring its subtle dialogues across different materials—cold and grounded on metal, quiet on paper, warm and matte in plaster. Rather than isolated objects for a gallery wall, these works are crafted to enter domestic spaces, bringing an understated atmosphere of clarity, stillness, and contemplation to modern life.
Order and Intuition
A meaningful space requires a natural rhythm between clear structure and raw emotion. In Shang Siqi’s creations, clean geometric lines establish a sense of visual composure, while the unscripted nature of materials—subtle cracks, natural settling, and unpolished edges—softens the rigidity. This quiet balance between order and chance reflects the essence of living: finding clarity, warmth, and quiet poetry within the unpredictable texture of daily life.
Forms of Connection
Geometric cuts, quiet gaps, and repeating forms recur throughout the work, yet they carry no fixed instructions on how to feel. Instead of imposing complex theories, Shang Siqi leaves the interpretation open. One need not decode what a symbol represents; simply observe how its presence quietly redefines the mood of a room.
